OneDrive Changes Beginning January 2025

by | Dec 10, 2024 | Business, Office 365

An upcoming OneDrive update will change how unlicensed data will be kept. Data stored in unlicensed OneDrive accounts will be inaccessible after January 27th. An example of this in your business could be accounts kept after an employee’s termination.

After Jan 27th, when offboarding an account, you will have 90 days to move their OneDrive data to another location, otherwise it will be permanently deleted.

When asked, we can provide a list of all unlicensed accounts in your organization and the amount of OneDrive storage.

If you need to retain any data that currently exists in an unlicensed OneDrive account, you will need to move it to a different location (such as Sharepoint or a licensed user’s OneDrive) before January 27th.

If your organization needs to access any of this data, the time to act is now.

We don’t expect this to affect many of our clients, but we are committed to helping those who are.

Please reach out if you have any questions specific to your organization.

Best regards,
